Josie Brumfield graduated from the University of Utah, S.J. Quinney College of Law in 2005. She has spent her legal career focused almost exclusively on criminal defense. As a law student, Josie served as a law clerk in the Appellate Division at the Salt Lake Legal Defender’s Association. Upon graduation, she was hired at LDA as an attorney in the Appellate Division. It was during a rebuttal during oral arguments in front of the Utah Court of Appeals when Josie realized her passion for criminal trial work and soon transferred to the Trial Division.
Josie also practiced criminal law in the private sector, representing clients in jurisdictions throughout Utah. In 2009, Josie opened a satellite office in St. George, operating as the office’s senior attorney for a notable law firm. This gave Josie not only a strong presence in Salt Lake City, but also throughout southern Utah.
Josie has conducted scores of criminal jury trials with a high level of success. Her practice is very motion centered, suppressing statements and evidence on the grounds that they were unconstitutionally obtained by law enforcement and therefore inadmissible. Josie believes that attention to every detail and possible legal strategy in the pretrial phase puts her clients in the best position for success should their case proceed to trial. Josie has extensive trial experience with DUI and assault charges and is a graduate of the Western Trial Advocacy Institute.
